Er will Deutschland beim ESC vertreten. Bereits vor zwei Jahren sprach Leopold in Interviews vom Eurovision Song Contest. Nun ist er seinem Traum offenbar einen guten Schritt näher. Im Podcast spreche ich mit ihm über diesen großen Schritt, Hass im Netz und Sichtbarkeit im Mainstream.

Im ZDF-Interview verriet Leopold, dass er sich offiziell für den deutschen ESC-
Vorentscheid beworben hat. Der NDR hatte im November dazu aufgerufen, da dieses Jahr der deutsche Vorentscheid wieder von den Zuschauern gewählt wird.

Von TikTok zum ESC

Leopold hat sich nicht nur mit zahlreichen TV-Auftritten, sondern auch bei TikTok einen
Namen gemacht. Dort folgen ihm knapp 165.000 Menschen. Neben seiner Rolle als
Sänger, Songwriter und Vocal Coach ist er auch durchaus Aktivist der queeren Szene. Er nutzt regelmäßig seine Reichweite, um gegen Diskriminierung benachteiligter Gruppen zu mobilisieren und engagiert sich unentwegt für Akzeptanz und die volle Gleichstellung von queeren Menschen.

Aus Schwächen wurden Stärken

Auf dem Schulhof musste Leopold für seine Besonderheiten viel Spott und Häme ertragen. Als junger Erwachsener emanzipiert er sich schließlich davon, nimmt seine vermeintlichen Makel – die hohe Stimme und seine Feminität – und verwandelt sie in seine größten Stärken. Im Podcast sprechen wir genau darüber. Leopold erzählt u.a. wie es ist, als queerer Künstler in einer Mainstream Sendung wie dem Morgen Magazin aufzutreten. Wie geht er mit Hass auf TikTok und anderen Portalen um und warum will er ausgerechnet beim ESC antreten, wo die ganze Welt auf alles, was man tut, schaut?
