Sugababes bestätigen erste Live Show nach acht Jahren!

Sugababes 2021 One Touch

Es ist 11 Jahre her seit das letzte ursprüngliche Mitglied von den Sugababes ersetzt wurde. Das galt damals als das Ende der Gruppe. Doch Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan und Siobhan Donaghy sind in der Originalbesetzung schon länger dabei, die Sugababes zurück zu bringen. Jetzt gibt es die erste bestätigte Live Show.

Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan und Siobhan Donaghy sind zurück und werden im nächsten Sommer beim „Mighty Hoopla“-Festival in London als Headliner spielen. Gegründet in den späten 90ern, hat die Band vier Wechsel durchlaufen, was dazu führte, dass neue Bandmitglieder die ursprünglichen Stimmen ersetzten, bis am Ende keines der Originalmitglieder mehr dabei war. Trotz stetigem Wechsel hatten die Sugababes fünf Top-10-Alben und 18 Top-10-Singles, darunter sechs Nummer 1 Hits.

Rechtsstreit um den Bandnamen

Im März 2010 meldete die BBC, dass Mutya Buena als Gründungsmitglied Klage gegen die Nutzung des Namens „Sugababes“ eingereicht hatte. Ihrer Meinung nach existiere die Band nicht mehr ohne ein Gründungsmitglied. Sie gewann darauf hin 2011 eingeschränkte Rechte an dem Namen. Da sie den Namen aber nicht im vollem Umfang nutzen durfte, nannten sich Mutya, Keisha und Siobhan, die drei Originale, zunächst MKS und meldeten sich mit dem Song „Flatline“ in 2013 zurück.

Mittlerweile dürfen sie sich auch wieder Sugababes nennen und kündigten 2021 an, eine erweiterte Neuauflage ihres 2000er Debüts „One Touch“ herauszubringen, die jetzt erhältlich ist. Die neue Auflage enthält Demos, Raritäten und Überarbeitungen von Leuten wie Blood Orange (alias Dev Hynes), MNEK und Metronomy. Donaghy sagte über den Metronomy-Remix: „Wir sind so dankbar, dass Metronomy zugestimmt hat, im Rahmen unseres 20-jährigen Jubiläums einen Remix für uns zu machen. Mit ihnen allen bei den NME Awards 2014 ihren Love Letters-Track aufzuführen, war ein besonderer Moment.

Erstes Festival bestätigt

Bei Zoe Balls auf BBC Radio 2 sagte Siobhan: „Im Moment gibt es nichts Konkretes, aber wir arbeiten ständig an Sachen und definitiv an neuer Musik“. Und nun wurde endlich der erste Live-Auftritt bestätigt: „Wir lieben es, zusammen Musik zu machen und das werden wir auch weiterhin tun. Und hoffentlich dauert es jetzt nicht mehr allzu lange, da wir jetzt wieder zusammen im Studio sein können.“ Da kann man nur hoffen, dass im nächsten Jahr neue Musik von den Babes kommt.

Das Mighty Hoopla Festival geht vom 3. – 4. Juni 2022 in London und ist ein LGBTQ+-Pop-Festival in UK. In den letzten Jahren hatte das Festival Headliner wie Cheryl, Years & Years, Chaka Kahn und TLC. / Berry
