Shakira is back mit neuer Musik. Die Latin-Queen meldet sich mit der ersten englischsprachigen Nummer seit 2014 zurück. „Don’t Wait Up“ ist die erste Single vom neuen Album, das Ende des Jahres/Anfang nächsten Jahres folgen wird.

Shakira hatte Anfang dieser Woche für Schlagzeilen gesorgt, nachdem sie ihr Profilfoto in den sozialen Netzwerken in einen Farbverlauf geändert hatte. Dieser Farbverlauf ähnelt dem der lesbischen Flagge sehr und machten wilde Spekulationen auf Twitter die Runde. Will sich Shakira damit zu ihrer „wahren“ sexuellen Orientierung bekennen? Prompt verbreiteten sich Hashtags wie „#Shakiracomingout“ und „#Shakiralesbian“ wie ein Lauffeuer.

Mitte der Woche postete Shakira das Cover zur neuen Single und heute ist die Nummer nun endlich erschienen. Wirklich weg war die Sängerin nie. Sie hat erfolgreich spanische Musik veröffentlicht, vor Corona eine Welt Tour gerockt und 2020 die Super Bowl Halftime Show mit Jennifer Lopez bestritten, die sehr gute Kritiken bekam. „Don’t Wait Up“ ist ein neuer Sound für Shakira. Ähnlich wie bei „She Wolf“, eine Nummer die damals für Shakira total anders klang, ist auch „Don’t Wait Up“ von den Elementen her super eigen. Es fängt chilling an und verwandelt sich dann zu einer Tanznummer mit House-Elementen.

Das dazugehörige Video animiert ebenfalls zum Tanzen und Feiern. Es wäre ja auch mehr als enttäuschend, wenn ausgerechnet Shakira keine neuen Moves im Video präsentiert. „Don’t Wait Up“ ist übrigens die erste Single vom kommenden Album, das Ende des Jahres/Anfang nächsten Jahres folgen wird. / Berry
