Seit September 2016 spekulierten Musikfans darüber, was Lady Gaga bei ihrer Super Bowl Halftimeshow machen wird und in der Nacht vom Sonntag (05.02.2017) auf Montag war es dann endlich soweit. Die Erwartungen waren hoch, denn immerhin haben Stars wie Madonna, Michael Jackson, Beyoncé und Katy Perry bewiesen, wie aufwendig man so eine Show gestalten kann.
Keine Super Bowl Halbzeitshow hat so spektakulär angefangen, wie die von Gaga. Auf dem Dach des Stadions startet sie ihren Auftritt vor einem Sternenhimmel und sorgt für Gänsehaut. „America The Beautiful“ sing sie und „Gerechtigkeit für alle“ sagt sie (sicherlich eine Anspielung auf die politische Lage im Land), bevor sie sich aus der unglaublichen Höhe des Dachs, an Seilen gesichert, in die Tiefe stürzt und auf einem Turm landet. Wow, was für ein Start.
„Poker Face“ ist dann der Opener, der so richtig einschlägt. Es folgen ihre Hits „Born This Way“, „Telephone“ und „Just Dance“. Gaga bewegt sich dann, nach einem ordentlichen Schwung an Tanzeinlagen inklusive Live-Gesang, zum Klavier, wo sie stark aus der Puste ihre aktuelle Single und Ballade „Million Reasons“ dennoch hervorragend singt. Leider auch der einzige Song aus ihrem aktuellen Album „Joanne“. Es folgt das große Finale mit „Bad Romance“, bevor Gaga abrupt und irgendwie unverständlich die Show mit einem „Touchdown“ beendet. Und damit komme ich auch zu den Schwächen dieser Show.
Starker Start, schwaches Ende
Selten hat eine Super Bowl Halbzeit Show so spektakulär begonnen und so stark nachgelassen. Gaga fehlten eindeutig die Stargäste, die mittlerweile zu einer Super Bowl Show dazu gehören. Spätestens bei „Telephone“ haben alle auf einen Überraschungsauftritt von Beyoncé gehofft. Immerhin ist es deren gemeinsamer Song und selbst in Form eines Video-Einspielers mit Beyoncé (oder sei es ein Video-Telefonat zwischen Beyoncé und Gaga von nur wenigen Sekunde) hätte an dieser Stelle für neuen Schwung gesorgt. Doch leider wird die spektakuläre Show nach der zweiten Nummer eintönig. Die ersten drei Songs bieten kaum visuelle Innovationen. Madonna hatte ständig wechselnde Bühnenbilder, Katy Perry hatte die komplette Bodenfläche mit 3D Effekt bebeamen lassen und Beyoncé hatte zumindest Destiny´s Child als Knaller. Davon war bei Gaga nichts zu spüren. Das Bühnenbild war toll, keine Frage, aber bietet nichts, was wir in der Form nicht schon gesehen haben.
Neben den fehlenden Gästen, fehlten auch die Songs aus ihrem neuen Album „Joanne“. Gaga reflektiert mit ihrer Show zwar ihre Karriere, aber „Million Reasons“ nach 6 Minuten tanzintensiven Dance Songs zu platzieren und diese wunderschöne Ballade dann total aus der Puste mit Mühe durchzuziehen, zollt dem aktuellen Album keinen Respekt. Die letzte Nummer setzte dann genau das fort, was wir am Anfang der Show gesehen haben. „Bad Romance“ ist zwar einer ihrer erfolgreichsten Songs, doch ich hätte mir ein etwas emotionaleres Ende gewünscht. Apropos Ende, das war dann wohl der enttäuschendste Moment der ganzen Show und ließ den Zuschauer einfach nur irritiert zurück, wie damals bei Justin Timberlake und Janet Jackson, als der „Nipplegate“ geschah und der Sender einfach in die Werbung ging.
Ihre Stimme ist ihre Waffe
Alles in allem, war Gaga super und hat eine tolle Show hingelegt. Besonders stimmlich hat sie die sportlichen 12 Minuten solide durchgezogen und gezeigt, dass eben diese Stimme mehr ist, als jede Show und jedes Kostüm je sein können. Wenn man den Vergleich zu den anderen Shows nicht ziehen müsste, kann man sagen, dass Gaga für diesen Auftritt geboren wurde. Sie selbst bringt alles mit, was man braucht, doch es fehlten eben die nötigen äußeren Elemente, wie eben Stargäste und innovativere Spezialeffekte, die eine Super Bowl Show legendär machen können. Sie hatte ihre Momente, wie eben der Start mit dem Sprung, ihre unglaubliche stimmliche Leistung und das richtige Gespür für Tanz und Akzente.
Es ist also Kritik auf sehr hohem Niveau, da diese Halbzeitshows in den letzten Jahren gefühlt zu einem sportlichen Wettstreit um einen Auftritt geworden sind, den die Welt so noch nicht gesehen hat und da hat die Gaga Show auf den letzten Metern leider ganz knapp vor dem Ziel etwas die Puste verloren. Dennoch: Gaga at it´s Best und so oder so: Legendär!
