Sam Smith ist mit voller Kraft zurück. Nachdem er mit der ersten Single „Too Good At Goodbyes“ direkt Platz 1 der UK-Charts ging, gemeinsam mit James Corden im „Carpool Karaoke“ herumfuhr und für 2018 seine erste Stadiontournee angekündigt hat, erscheint heute (03.11.2017) das neue Album „The Thrill Of It All“.
„The Thrill of It All“ hat Sam Smith mit seinem langjährigen Freund und Kreativpartner Jimmy Napes aufgenommen. Außerdem arbeitete er dieses Mal auch mit Timbaland, Malay, Jason „Poo Bear“ Boyd und Stargate zusammen. Drei Jahre nach seinem Debütalbum „In The Lonely Hour“, das ihm weltweit den Durchbruch und etliche Musikpreise – u.a. vier Grammys und drei BRIT AWARDs – bescherte, meldet sich Sam Smith zurück! Optisch ist Sam Smith auf dem Albumcover vor allem schlanker geworden. Er trägt einen Bart und wirkt genau so zerbrechlich, wie 2014 bei seinem Durchbruch. Er hatte viele Probleme mit dem Business, mit den Medien und dem ganzen Erfolg. Vielleicht ist das auch der Grund, warum seine Songs auf der neuen Platte auch weiterhin so zerbrechlich und verwundbar wirken.
Trotz Erfolg und neuem Look, bleibt Sam verletzlich
Nur selten, bricht diese Stimmung auf, wie bei dem Song „One Last Song“, der super auf eine Amy Winehouse Platte gepasst hätte. „Midnight Train“, „Burning“ und „HIM“ greifen dann wieder eine verletzliche und ängstliche Stimmung auf. Erst bei „Baby, You Make Me Crazy“ kommt die Sonne wieder etwas raus und es ist keine Frage, diese Songs sind authentisch und spiegeln Smith´s persönliche Erfahrungen wieder. „No Peace“ mit Yabba ist eine Wucht an Emotionen und auch „Nothing Left For You“ geht unter die Haut. Vielleicht auch, weil das Album das perfekte Wechselspiel zwischen Sam´s Stimme und anderen Elementen, wie Gospelchor oder Gitarre, zulässt. Es ist genug Spielraum für ihn und die Musik, wie auf „Scars“ und „One Day At A Time“, die beide nur mit einer Gitarre auskommen
